This standard presents the requirements of a cathodic epoxy electrocoat for use on steel, coated steel, aluminum, and zinc based die cast (ZBDC) parts as well steel chassis components such as crossmembers, control arms, engine cradles, and frames. These chassis components may have zinc or zinc-iron metallic coatings. This material when applied in accordance with PS-7232 is suitable as a finish coat on chassis parts where sunligh weathering is not required. The minimum film build shall be 20.0um (0.8 mil) on the exterior surface of engine cradles and frames and 15.0um (0.6 mil) on internal surfaces (boxed sections) of these chassis components. Refer to PS7232, or the engineering drawing, for film thickness requirements of all other chassis parts.
